Not well taught
A successful businessman lived in London with his wife and daughter. There were only a few hours that he could give to his family and he met his lone living mother only occasionally. One day, his daughter reminded him of her grandmother's birthday. No doubt he was in a deep guilt of being that unaware. Same night, he shared his regression with his wife who suggested him to visit his mother's place and plan a dinner with her at least once. He appreciated the given idea. Next day itself, he went to his mother's place. She was tearfully surprised at his invitation to dinner exclusively with her. She could say only, " I would like it the most." Soon enough, she wore the same saree that was adored on her last marriage anniversary when her husband was alive.
Having reached a grand restaurant, the man started checking the menu in order to order the best dishes for her. His mother couldn't control smiling on seeing this new act of his son for her.
The moment grew unusual and unparalleled. She was getting uniquely comfortable with his darling son. Profoundly happy to find his son present there only for her, she felt like her sweetest imagination came true. Obviously, it was different from those which his son used to have with his family or with his officials. The dinner was accompanied by many directionless talks on gone days and reaching that stage of life.
"Son, I want to make this moment longer...". Without a pause she continued,"Next friday, we will again come to dinner along with my daughter-in-law and my granddaughter." To her words, her son didn't ponder and agreed. After the dinner, he dropped her at her place and came back. Thereafter, time kept on passing. Next friday, she reminded him the promise as she was well acquainted with his busy routine and even busier nature of her son. That friday changed to next friday and so were the next three fridays. His mother didn't resent as she knew her son. The responses came the same; "lack of time mom, lack of time!"
One day, before the next friday could even come, she died due to her third heart attack. Everyone rushed to her place; she was sleeping dead on her bed. Her son almost fell on her arms, trying to embrace her in his arms. Now, he was weeping badly while she laid silent having finished her weeping. Being amply close to her, unknowingly his one hand reached below her pillow. And as he took his hand out, a few papers came out effortlessly. He opened his tearful eyes and before him was his photograph covered with his own handwritten overleaf. Also there was a letter attached with a paid bill of the same restaurant where she wanted to have one more dinner with them. The letter had the sentiments which eventually came out when she was in eternal rest. "My son, you weren't there when I wanted you to be. My eyes always had a quest of seeing you. Being amply tired then they gave up. I must say you didn't forget anything but just the letter 'L' . I taught you LEARNING but what you could understand was only EARNING. Alas! I couldn't teach you well. Anyway, my heartfelt blessings will remain always with you. Tomorrow forget not going to the restaurant for dinner with your family, the bill is already paid. Do have a wonderful night. I love you, my son."
